Description: Survey of Soviet and Russian films that reflect, respond to, and document cultural, social, political and ideological shifts, historical developments of the twentieth and twenty-first-century Russia. Emphasis is given to the analysis of sociopolitical and cultural context featured in film, as well as the study of the major cultural periods including the late Tsarist period, the October Revolution, Stalinism, Thaw, Stagnation, Perestroika and Glasnost, the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the post-Soviet period.
