Description: Analysis of the process of textile and apparel sourcing, including the scope and resourcefulness of current practices, with emphasis on innovations driven by the textile bioeconomy, such as biobased fibers, closed-loop systems, and material sourcing. This includes an examination of cultural, political, ethical, and economic perspectives related to sourcing, production, trade, and distribution of textiles and apparel products.

Description: Gain a comprehensive foundation in merchandising mathematics and financial analysis for both brick-and-mortar and e-commerce textile and apparel operations. Explore key concepts such as retail sales, markup, price changes, profit and loss, seasonal planning, and open-to-buy (OTB), using Excel and buying technologies to solve case studies and apply formulas in real-world scenarios. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between social, technical, and aesthetic qualities of textiles, and their tranformations, as well as stylistic similarities and differences across cultural and historical contexts.

The credit hours for this course will be determined by the length of the study tour. Tours of 3-4 days will be for 1 credit and 5-8 will be for 2 credits. Students may repeat this course for credit.
Description: The apparel, accessories and soft goods marketplaces and manufacturing throughout the U.S. provide excellent arenas for learning. Short domestic study tours including but not limited to such centers of soft good commerce as Las Vegas, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth and other regional locations.
Prerequisites: Junior standing (60+ credit hours), Minimum 2.5 GPA Overall. For Merchandising Students: TMFD 313. For Apparel Design Students: TMFD 212 & TMFD 216. For Textile Science Students: TMFD 405 OR TMFD 406. For TMFD Communication Students: TMFD 312.
One credit hour is equal to a minimum of 45 work hours.
Description: Supervised individual professional experience with a qualified, cooperative practicing professional. The internship provides opportunity to gain practical experience and apply coursework knowledge as well as build professional soft skills to prepare for future careers in the industry.
