The Master of Engineering Management is a professional practice-oriented advanced degree offered by the College of Engineering for those employed in engineering, science, and technology.
Description
This non-thesis program is specially designed with working professionals in mind who are employed in the engineering, science, and technology industries. Our MEM is a fusion of technical and business courses that strikes a balance between business acumen and technical and operations knowledge and skills. You will learn to lead and manage engineering and technical people, projects, and teams while you continue working in your industry.
The entire program is web-based and 100% asynchronously online to give you the highest flexibility of time and space. Six elective courses let you tailor and customize your program to your career needs and to co-create your unique educational experience by applying what you learn to workplace challenges as you learn to become an effective leader and manager. Instead of general business management, our MEM is designed for those who will lead operations and technical functions. Hence, the streamlined curriculum allows degree completion with only 10 courses (up to 3 of which could be in the MBA program).

Successful candidates for admission should have a STEM degree and relevant industry work experience. Students with non-engineering degrees may be required to take some undergraduate course work in engineering science. Other admission criteria apply (see below).

Applying for Admission
Standard requirements for all graduate programs
- Application for Admission with $50 non-refundable application fee.
- Transcripts (unofficial): Uploaded as part of application form.
If International: Uploads must include all college- or university-level transcripts or mark sheets (records of courses and marks earned), with certificates, diplomas, and degrees plus certified English translations.
After admission: Official documents are required from all students who are admitted and enroll. Photocopies of certified records are not acceptable. International students enrolled in other U.S. institutions may have certified copies of all foreign records sent directly to the Office of Graduate Studies by their current school’s registrar office.
- If applicant’s native language is not English, verification of English proficiency is required.
When sending TOEFL scores, our institution code is 6877 and a department code is not needed.

- Applicants must also fulfill any additional requirements the department specifies at the time of application.

This program is designed for working professionals. This program does not offer stipends, assistantships, or scholarships. This degree is offered 100% online and asynchronously; international students seeking US entry should be aware that student visas will not be issued for this program.

- Three letters of recommendation: Preference is for all recommenders to be industry contacts (current or past work supervisors and managers of engineering positions). However, your application will be considered if one recommender is academic contact (faculty).
- Academics and experience: 3.00 GPA (recommended); STEM degree and work experience; Calculus I and a course in probability & statistics.
Admission is based on holistic review of applications. The following are admission requirements: Undergraduate or higher degree in engineering or quantitative discipline (STEM); Two years (recommended) of relevant work experience in engineering and technology industry (engineering co-op education and internships may be considered as part of the two years); GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) or if deficient discuss with program staff; Calculus I or higher (if deficient discuss with program staff); course in probability and statistics taken within 5 years with at least C grade (if deficient consult program staff for options). Admission Application Deadlines
Applications are accepted throughout the year on an ongoing (rolling) basis for Fall, Spring, and Summer.
- Fall and Spring courses are offered in 8-week mini sessions: Fall-A and Fall-B, Spring-A and Spring-B. If a Fall or Spring term has already started and you wish to join the "B" mini session, select the following semester when applying and then contact program staff to notify them of your plans. They will coordinate with Graduate Studies to change your start term.
